What is the LONGTIME® Label?
The LONGTIME® label, developed by Ethikis, identifies products designed with a long lifespan in mind. It provides information on durability, robustness, repairability, and total cost of ownership to support informed purchasing decisions.
The label was created to shift the market away from short-lived, disposable products and toward sustainable manufacturing practices that reduce waste and promote the circular economy. It is recognized as one of the first European labels to focus on fighting premature obsolescence by evaluating products through an independent audit, focusing on longevity rather than just repairability.
A trustworthy and rigorous certification framework
The LONGTIME® label is a trustworthy and rigorous scheme built on a transparent and demanding methodology. Products are evaluated against 38 cross-cutting criteria and specific criteria for each product family covering durability, repairability, maintenance, spare‑part availability, and information transparency, ensuring a truly holistic assessment of their lifetime. Certification is granted only after independent and impartial verification, guaranteeing credibility and neutrality. Expert durability assessors thoroughly analyze each product to confirm compliance with the standard.
TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium’s Role: Independent Verification for LONGTIME®
As part of this partnership, TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium provides independent verification services for manufacturers seeking LONGTIME® certification. Building on our recognized expertise in testing, inspection, and certification, we support the process with technical rigor and objectivity.
By acting as an independent third party, TÜV AUSTRIA Belgium helps ensure that claims related to product longevity are substantiated and verifiable. Our involvement strengthens confidence in the label for manufacturers, consumers, and other stakeholders.
